Project Background
This project was implemented for the Dubai Ecological and Environmental Protection Authority, targeting lake water monitoring in the EXPO Lakes area. The objective was to establish a 24/7 real-time water quality monitoring system covering 38 lakes, enabling centralized data management and long-term ecological assessment.
Traditional monitoring methods relied heavily on manual sampling, which resulted in low efficiency, delayed data, and limited spatial coverage. These constraints made it difficult to respond quickly to pollution events or accurately assess overall water conditions.
Key Challenges
The project faced several critical challenges:
- Low efficiency and high labor cost due to manual boat sampling
- Lack of continuous data, especially during night or extreme weather
- Poor representativeness from single-point sampling
- Delayed emergency response to sudden pollution events
At the same time, the client required:
- High-frequency data collection (up to 10 datasets per hour)
- Multi-parameter monitoring (pH, ORP, turbidity, chlorophyll, temperature, etc.)
- Long-term stable operation in outdoor environments
- Remote access, visualization, and alarm system integration
Solution Overview
To address these challenges, GL Environment provided a comprehensive water quality monitoring solution based on the KSF-800 Water Quality Monitoring Buoy, forming a distributed intelligent monitoring network.

The system integrates multiple sensors directly into the buoy, enabling real-time in-situ measurement. Data is transmitted via wireless communication (4G/GPRS) to a cloud-based platform for continuous monitoring and analysis.
